the self levelling unit is there to support weight with the light standard springs...
once you lift it with heavier springs it is usually maxed out as well as useless due to the springs load carrying capacity....
Piss it off....heavy, useless, expensive piece of crap.....
If in good condition try flog it

Landyman, what would it be like if you replaced the strut with an adjustable air bag?
would this help with different loads?
it seems to me that it wouldn't help with bodyroll? is this correct?

yes an adjustable air bag would help with loads but by increasing your spring rate you increase your load carrying capacity...

Take it off if you lift your truck, also handling improves around corners (rear doesn't pivot on the self leveler)
I was thinking of making a hydraulic ram to go where the self leveler would go, so I could raise/ lower the back end of my 90 to help stability up hills/down hills

And the other benifit of swapping in an air bag is that you could push the axle onto the ground similar to what the bogue strut used to do.
More weight on both wheels equal more traction.
