Hi Fellas,

Had the air filter light come on the other day and after cleaning the MAF and connections and changing the air filter its still on. (1996 80s 4.5 twin cam)

I couldnt find anything in the FSM about it and wanted to know if you guys new anything about it.

Am I going to be doing any damage leaving it on for a while as I was heading away on tuesday. I assume fuel ecconomy may go up a bit.

Other than that the vehicle seems to be running fine.

Cheers,
Nath

The air filter light is controlled by the differential pressure switch located on the side of the airbox. Its the one that has 2 little rubber hoses coming off it that connect to the lid of the airbox.

One line see's vacuum on the inlet air, and one sees vacuum on the filter side of the inlet. If there is too big a difference, it means the filter is blocked.

If the inlet air line comes off, then when the car is running, the light will come on sometimes. If the switch is buggered, then it will come on also.
Check the rubber hoses and the electrical connector, and then borrow a switch from somebody if that fails.

It should not do any damage as far as i know, not upset your fuel economy. It is only an indication rather than a computer input.
