What to do with $4500

He's the situation, I have been working my guts out over the last 6 months and got a good bonus. The other half has agreed to use some of it on my runner 8)

So here's the question I have $4500 to play with, what should I do with my rig??

For those that don't know this is it ->
Image

http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modules/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=31

It has the following spec's:
1985 $runner,
5.0 lt V8 efi,
BFG 35's on 15x8 rims,
Dual transfer cases,
4.88 ratio's,
Rear lock right locker,
Standard x-over,
Front RS44044 Springs,
Rear Standard Springs,
Extended shackles,
Snake front shock hoops,
RS9012 all round,
Bushwacher flares

Currently the front springs flex great (with the rs44044) but the rear are fcuked (standard rears with leafs removed)

This is the wish list (prices are approx.):
38"x12.5 tsl swampers (trail only, 35's for the street) - $1800
15x8 Custom offset rims (1"-2") OR beadlocks - $500 or $1200
New long travel shaft to fit the new dual adapter case - $450
Custom rear long travel spings - $250
Move lockright to the font and weld the rear - $60
IFS Front hub spacers to match the rear diff - $400 (I have all the IFS disk and calipers, so I just need the spacer)
Body modification to fit 38"
- Modified front guards or Nic's front fibreglass guards -$?? or $450
- Front firewall tub - $200
- Rear guard modification - $350
Winch (second hand) - $700 - $900
rubber flares - $100
tube Sliders (all pro style) - $??
tube Rear Bar (all pro style)- $??
tube Front winch Bar (all pro style) - $??

I still need this to be a daily driver (well only drive it 2-3 times a week) so the mods can not be that radical. So I can not simply sawall the guards, I need to get them modded professionaly and the lip put back on so I can attach rubber flares. All current mods (bar one) are licenced.

Don't talk about busting CV's if that happens I will just have to tell the wife that I need to by new CV's that are longs  Don't want to put these in the budget when I can scam them latter

I have access to a professional workshop with most tools including welder (just need to learn to weld), air tools, drill press, etc.

So what should I get??

Ditch the bar and get a steel winch bar, tube or what ever tickels your fancy. say $800
Winch say $1000
Suspension allow $1000 for custom made springs.
tyres, new Q78`s will set you back approx $2000 for 4

Or don`t worry about the bar and winch and get a front air lock which fitted would cost you around $1400 to $1500 new.

That comes to $4800 but I`m shore you will be able to get each thing a bit cheaper by shopping around as these prices are only approxment ones for you to budget off.

by a bender, a good one for about 1200 and then the tube, that way you would be able to build all your bars and an exo for less than you would pay someone to make you sliders and a front bar.

if it were me, and i was you...........

winch 1000
bender and bar work 1500
37 mtr 1500 (4 off)<-------------now edited
panel work to fit tyres.

but then you still got the same rear springs sooooooooooooooo i would leave the body work and coil the rear.

How can you get 37mtr's and beadloacks for $1500 ??? The tyres alone are $1600????
I think for WA conditions the TSL would be a better tyre the the MTR.

I though about coil springs but then it would mean more problems with the cops. I eventually bob the runner I will go coils then. For now I will stick with leaf's

Nick are you running 35's or 37's on the surf???

i was going to say beadlocks, but for got to delete it, thought you would be better of with the bender. the 1500 is only for the tyres.

i am currently running 35's, i had 37's but when i lined them up against the truck there was no way they were going to fit my reason for going MTR was the fact that they are good both on and offroad, so i sold all my others tyres and now run the MTR's all the time, maybe you could do the same and get bead locks?

Guts Q78 are to small. I am spending alot on tyres so I though I would just go the the 38's instead of steping up to them. I know more work to make them fit, but I believe it will be worth it. 8) I am sure your next set of tyres will be in the 38" range

Also for the rear springs I will be getting 3 leafs (per side) made 11" longer for about $250. I will just need to weld new front hangers on, which I have. Might need a track bar, see what happens!!

Nick how much trimming did you need to make if you were to fit the 37's. Would they have fit the font with you fibreglass guards ?? How about the back ??

Chris.

I only said Q78`s because I know how much they are, so there for you should be able to work out that 38`s are going to be heaps more. I myself will never buy swampers 2nd hand as they like any tyre are at their best in the first 20%.

As for my next set of swampers? They will be either Q78`s again, 36 x 12.5 or 37 x 13 boggers. More then likely the boggers.

they would have fitted on the front sweet as, it is the rear that i was going to have problems and it was more on width than height, i have an IFS rear to go in but i believe i would have still had problems. On the front end, i have the axle foward approximately 2.5 inch and IFS hubs they would have rubbed the top of the guard without the fibreglass guards or cutting. If all that makes sence.

I am only talking about 4 not 5 tyres. But I have got prices for 38x12.5 tsl (4) around $1800 - $1900
