NH Paj - No spark... sometimes

Hi Guys. Hope Im not asking a stupid question thats been answered lately, im new to the forum.

My NH swb is not starting about 1 in 5 times, just hear the starter motor turning over, and recently has started stalling while im driving and not starting again after it stops. It is idling really low(about 500rpm) which is half what it was a few weeks ago. seems to conk out while im stopped at lights idling.

I bought a new ECU from the wreckers yesterday thinking that was the problem. Started and ran fine first few times (still low revs) but it has gone back to its old tricks.

Problems all started after washing out the engine bay after a beach trip. Gave it a good blast with the high pressure hose so water could have got into some spots it shouldnt

Any suggestions on what it could be?

Thanks

Simon

My first guess would be the crank angle sensor. This is what tells the ECU that the engine is turning - if the ECU doesn't see the engine turning, it won't fire the injectors or the spark plugs.

Good luck,

Can the crank angle sensor intermittantly fail?

I have the same issues after washing my engine bay or going through deep water (or shallow water a little fast). Although it is usually combined with bad missing & big loss of power.

My mechanic said though that if it was the crank sensor it would be dead (wouldn't start at all and wouldn't just fix itselft 5 mins later) as they dont really become dodgy they just flat out die. This makes me think that the wire/connection could be loose/damaged/dodgy.

the crank angle sensor can definitely be intermittent.

mine caused the biggest headaches in the world. Ended up being the crank angle sensor, so replaced that, the connector and dissi cap.

has been running great ever since, touch wood.
