gq td42 using way to much fuel!

Post by macneil »

Hey guys my td42 is drinking the juice like there is no tomorrow.. i have taken the pre air filter out and put in a new main one.. am thinking the pump may be turned up too high which way do i turn the adjustment screw to turn it down have searched but i cant find it.. i know the engine is low on compression but that shouldnt make it chew through so much fuel should it?

for more info..

its got extractors only on 31's has snorkel thats about it..

Don't touch that screw everyone seems to attack when they decide its time for more fuel.

Unless you really don't care and just want it to use less fuel. ;)

Could be just time for new injectors mate.

A lot of things cause bad fuel economy. As mentioned your right foot, tyres, vehicle and accessories, poor fuel quality, general tune up condition, poor injection system condition and a combination of them all. How are you measuring your fuel consumption? Is your speedo and trip meter accurate?

Fill the tank to the neck so you can see fuel, then do a couple of hundred k's, fill it up again and work out how much distance you have travelled.

lol, its a good game, watching the needle drop a quarter tank in 100km, then watch it drop another quarter in 300km.

do a couple of tanks, full to low, and get your odometer working so you actually know how much fuel you are using per 100km.

if your worried about it running pig rich, get it dyno tuned.
i payed a couple of hundred for some good diagnosing, a screw adjustment and a print out of a couple of runs

How low is the compression, compression is a huge factor in economy, thats why all current manufacturers run such high compressions and/or boost.
