G'Day there fellow zookers

I'm new to this site, and i think a quick introduction doesn't go astray.
My names Matt and i'm from Albury (or the border, whatever floats your boat!). I've recently got my first truck, and it was always going to be a sierra...

It's a 1992 Sierra with Hardtop/Softtop conversion. Its only done 140 clicks and i payed $2800!!! Not bad deal, even if i say so my self. There isn't any rust damage and its really tight.

My question is how the hell do i fit aftermarket speakers in this skinny little bugger? Any suggestions to where and how would be much appreciated.

mines a 92 softy and im running 6" speakers in the doors with a 20mm MDF spacer, and 6x9's in the back door with a 20mm mdf panel replacing the old door skin. The back of the 6x9s do touch the outer metal of the rear door, but not too bad.

Make sure you use good wiring and have solid connections to the speakers - and try waterproof the backs of the speakers and the connections in the front doors too - LOTS of water goes into the doors.

Mines got

6" splits in the front 1/4s ( mdf spacer with speaker in original speaker spot), headunit, amp in between seats on cargo barrier.
8" sub and 6" coaxial in each rear side panel, i have made mdf panels in the back for them.

You might want to look at marine speakers. Lots of water gets everywhere in a sierra if you drive offroad.

marine speakers arent worth it IMO... a good set of 6x9's cost me $70... they last about 3-4 years before getting shabby, my door ones were more expensive, but i've wrapped the backs in plastic and electrical tape to seal them up and theyre going great still after 4 years.

I'm assuming spacers are to raise the unit away form the inside of the panel?
Would a joint like Autobahn fit these or would they run away scared?

This sounds a bit stupid but my zook has had the original wireless replaced with a shity hyundai thing. The speakers the original owner used are just the ones used for uhf radios. They are revolting. Where did the originals sit?

i have sony 6 inch 4-way speakers in front, screw in, no spacer

You can get pretty decent marine speakers if you are willing to spend the dough (clarion is one from memory) but unless you are fording rivers regularly it would make sence to just go for something with a good frequency rensponce witin your budget

mine has the bottom end pioneer cd player from a few years back, and 4 x 6inch cheap kenwood 2 ways (2 in the kick panels, 2 in the tailgate - all came with the car when i got it) sounds fine for around town for radio etc and is turned off when wheeling plus they get hit with moisture, mud, dust etc so not too phased about it!

i've got a freebie sony cd headunit in mine, freebie sony 6" in the front and some cheap 6x9s in the back

as for where to put them, the fronts are in the stock location, look under the dash just forward of the doors...

thats what a jigsaw and a bit of mdf can get you, i rekon it came out really nicely

If your planning on drowning you car on occasion stay away from mdf around doors it swells when in and goes all crappy. If its all you can get paint or seal it.

i have 6s mounted in the front (near your foot, guess its the factory position), 6X9s in the rear side cards (replaced with mdf) and a bass tube attached to the roll cage. does the job nicely. has been underwater 3 times so far and still works
