G'day,

First post, Im currently looking for photos of the insides of a mq patrols front diff and 60 series front diff. I am trying to weigh up which vehicle is better, so i want to see which 4wd will be the easiest to make my own front locker for. Also if anyone has an opinion on a good 4wd between $1.5-$4k your info would be appreciated. Looking to buy a 4wd on lpg that can handle going through deep water, well once i get sell my feroza.

Cheers Jason.

why would you make your own front locker? The good thing about a 60 is they use the same diffs front and rear, and the same diffs have been used in many different cruiser models over the years so second hand lockers are plentiful and cheap!!

interested to hear how you're going to build your own locker?

the insides of both diffs are quite similar. the toyota diff is in a third member which unbolts fairly easily from the axle. The MQ is a salisbury style so getting the guts out to work on is arguably more difficult, especially when it comes to connecting what ever actuating mechanism you are installing

They are both 2 spider setups.

the 60 series is bigger and more plentiful so if you rooger it up its easy to get another one. to swap a MQ front diff you basically have to swap the whole front axle.

if you're just going to weld it, it doesn't make much difference which you choose. the 60 is a much bigger, more capable, more comfortable, and easier to maintain vehicle than the MQ.

Cheers for the comments. Yeh if i did see a cheap locker i would buy it, im just used to making things myself. Brighty any photos would be greatly appreciated, im mainly looking for pics of main diff mechanism. Yeh im really in a pickle over what to choose, i see benefits in both vehicles although im sliding towards the 60 series now. Just gotta sell the feroza now.

Cheers Jason
