Help Headlights not working

Hope someone may be able to help me with a strange problem with my HJ61. When I tun the headlights on at the stalk nothing happens, when I push the stalk forward to high beam nothing happens, however when I pull the stalk back like to flash the high beams my lights come on as the would when flashing an oncoming car. The fuses in tthe box are fine. I am very confused. Anybody got an idea?
