Been talking to a friend who thinking about building a nissan navara 1990s model. Single cab 4x4. Swapping the front end from irs to a patrol axle. Bolting a VG30dett engine to the gearbox.
Would the gearbox take this kind of abuse or just blow itself to pieces. Are there any other gearboxes that could be used.

dont know whats in the nav but the skyline/rb30 gearbox should be plenty strong enough. i believe it is the same as an RD28 gearbox

The Patrol gearbox as in 4.2s and 4.5s run the 50 series box and the Navara's diesel and Petrol run the 30 series box.
From my understanding you can put the 50 series gearset in the 30 series gearbox.
Look into it, thats the way I would go.
Dave.

the vg30dett is the engine they run in the 300zx and the gear box in that is pretty damn strong which i would asume would be similar the the vg30/vg33 gearboxes they run in the d22 navaras (97-05)
cheers

The VG and RB bellhousing to engine bolt paterns are different. RB30 box is not that strong from a skyline. You can go the RB25det box with the VG30 front housing on the box, but being a 4x4, you a probably better with the vg series 4x4 box from a navara.

they commonly do supercharged versions so i guess they would have an idea on the gearboxes.
