Can anyone help me with a problem that I have with my 13bt diesel landcruiser motor?
I have had the injector pump rebuilt completely, rebuilt and the turbo completely as well. However the car only wants to go hard for the first few seconds and then the power dies and excelerates slowly. I have noticed that it does blow a bit of black smoke when it wants to go then nothing when the lack of power comes into being.
I have also noticed that it appears to shut down the power when the turbo starts to kick in, maybe a co-incidence?
I have no idea what is causing this any ideas?
P.S the turbo is running at 8lbs boost but I believe its not getting the fuel required to get the thig going as well as it should. (Maybe?)

what condition is the motor in? also is there a fuel restriction somewhere?

Sounds like a fuel problem, check all filters and see if there is a little gause filter in the banjo fitting on the pump it self (if it has one) and make sure they are not blocked.

Does this motor have a boost sensor and vacuum lines to control wastgate ect . If so check them out. Boost compensator ????

do you have a boost guage and is it reaching boost . cause if the wastegate is opening prematurely it would smoke because it would apear to be overfueling due to no boost but with a lack of power due to lack of boost

I've seen the rubber hoses on the turbo inlet go soft and suck in, some have a spring in them to stop this, the symptom is usually it will accelerate hard, for a bit then slow down until the next time you back right off, then you will get the same brief surge of power if you accelerate again until the hose sucks in again. Also if you have a snorkel check the connections there also for soft hoses.

It could be a fuel restriction or sucking air problem. Best to start with basics first. What happens after it dies off? Will it go again?

Ive had a boost guage on it it reads eight pound boost. If I put the right boot into it, you can feel the power and it wants to accelerate, but it dies off as if lifting the foot off the go peddal about two or three seconds after it does still accelerate but very slowly. It is very noticeable when I take off in second you can feel the motor wanting to go and you can feel the power drop quite considerably, after those initial seconds.

Thanks for the input fellas
