PTO driven hydraulic pump

I've managed to buy a rear facing pto winch setup to suit a gq, however instead of using the winch the plan is to hard mount a hyd pump on the chassis rail and use a custom tail shaft between the pto output and the pump.
Has anyone tried this already?
The pump/motor displacements will determine the ultimate hyd motor rpm and the torque rating on the motor will determine the hp output at a set psi.
I already have 4 casapa gear pumps to play with but my main worry is blowing the pto out the side of the gear box and irrepairably damaging it when i start winding the pressure in on the flow meter when testing.

Does anyone know what kind of hp these pto's can handle? when i searched someone mentioned 18hp.

The DCV will have a pressure to tank centered spool so i can leave the pto engaged while winching but still drive and winch separately when i like.

Also im a bit confused, can you drive and use the pto? ie, to get your tyre over a log or nose the car up a hill.or is it drive OR winch only?

Also,is the pto rpm determined by eng rpm or what gear your in?

If anyone can shoot some holes in my theory or help out with the questions that would be great.

cheers smitty :D

From an old thread I read. I think the max was something like 12hp is what the book says. But you would have to search the thread to find.

This thread will answer your questions. I just couldn't be arsed typing it all again.

Thanks turps, thats where i must have seen the 18hp figure.

From what you say by leaving the gear box in neutral when not wanting to drive, pto rpm is directly proportional to eng rpm.

Have you had any issues with your clutch or pressure plate while using this setup?

thanks RMP&O, looks like im going to be doing some more reading
