I have a 97 2.8 TDI pajero. When cold (First thing in the morning) when I start it idles realy rough abnd with low RPM's. Not pretty. Idle is at the pointing of dieing. Seems okay when I bring the RPM upto 1000rpm. Give it 30 seconds and all okay. It fires very quickly however, just rough

Starting it in the afternoon it seems okay.

Its done 130k and I have only had it for a month.

Otherwise it seems fine. Idles at 850rpm normally with a bit of black sooty smoke on startup (after the cold morning wakeup).
Is this normal?

if this were my old 4d55 that would say i have one or two failed glowplugs, meaning you get good combustion on the cylinders that are working, but no combustion on the one or two that are not working - until heat from compression is sufficient. i guess yr 2.8 would be the same.

yeah my 2.8 chews the glow plugs.
i have to change them once a year or so.
in winter i double glow the plugs to get it to start a bit easier.
and the black smoke is normal. mine poors out 1st thing in the morning and has so little power that it can hardly move, so i just give it more time to warm up.

Yeh sounds normal.

Change the plugs and/or glow a couple of times in the morning.
