just wondering if anyone has ever had dramas with their power steer box???

mines fubar at the moment, had 2 quotes, one from pedders, $500 for remanufactured box upspec, but maybe $300+ for rechromed shaft, plus fitting and labour, and then another place was $470 p[lus $105 if the shaft needs doing plus labouyr and fitting.

what have other people done with their stuffed steer box??? i tried searching but search doesnt seem to work lately... :bad-words:

any ideas or anyone to see up here on the sunshine coast, qld, please let me know

iv had the wobble in the front end for a while, got rotors machined, got magnum compound in the tyres, and still got the wobble, coming through the steering box.

ch3ecked the freeplay, and it took 2.5 full turns to take the freeplay out of it, but then the wobble was gone, but now it wanders and tracks REAAALLY bad.

reco box, $500 plus fitting and labour, looking at about $800,

if someone knows of an off the shelf item, maybe terrain tamer??? that do one for a reasonable price it would be great to know.

yeh i have franks old paj,

but its not a resplines 60 serties box, its a resplined 60 series pitman arm, the box is all standard.

if anyones had a box done, maybe an idea how much it cost or options available, because at the moment the ONLY option is to pull it, send it away to get rebuilt and install. days off the road arent really an option, but then i guess neither is a car that doesnt steer...:?

cheers,

Random thought, it's not a castor issue is it? Can't imagine it is (given who built it), but I'd hate to see you chasing the wrong problem.

yeh the castor has been built built into the diff, the knuckles have been rotated 5 deg. i feel like i may be chasing the wrong problem anyways, im thinking it could actually be an 'egg' in the front right hand side tyre, but either way the steer box is rooted, so it needs to be done anyways.

cheers guys,

dean. ;)
