Hey Guys i've got an mq patrol that doesnt want to keep running. It will start but only runs for at most 10 seconds and then stops agian. Ive only just put the motor into the car but started it and drove it for an easy half hour before the car started playing up. It first stoped when it was ideling on a side angle testing the winch.

I had thought that it could of been something to do with loss of fule from being on the angle, or the electrical draw from the winch. however it now has fule in the fule line to the injector pump and has started and stoped at least 10 times.

any imput on what might be the cause and how i might be able to fix it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks alot, Allan

is primary fuel filter clean(it's located in fuel line to the hand pump bolt) ?

Does it re-start easily ( quickly) after a stall ???
or does it have to be cranked over for a few minutes before fireing up ?

If it starts easily, its electrical related
if it has to be cranked over & over its a fuel problem.

For fuel issues check / replace the filters, fuel pump, etc

electrial.... my have issues with the shutdown solinoid etc.

best answer I can give without more info. :?

id take a punt at the solenoid, it seems to be the most common fault in this area... it wont be a lack of fuel from any sorta angles your on as its injected, but if it is from a lack of fuel then clean out your primary filter (its a banjo bolt on the underside of your lift pump) and change your secondary filter(the big one)

check your fuses... i had this problem once car starts then stoped 10 sec earlier wat i found was one of my fuses had blown that run the fuel solenoid

Thanks for that guys i eventualy managedto get it started after purging the injector lines and pumps a couple of times along with what was proably to much "start ya barsterd" (numerous people tell me its very bad). it evenentualy managed to idel but realy realy smokey so i let it run and cracked all the lines agian which made it drivable.

so im taking a stab at the fact that there must of been still air somewhere in the fuel system after putting motor in that got sucked up when i was on the side angle.

however the motor is still very smokey particularly when engine breaking down a hill my mate thought it was probably injector dribble hence super rich smoke making mixture with butterfly valve closed. Could this be a possible cause would it be likely to be also causing performance issues.
(the same friend left me for dead in a smaller engined diesel navara  )

Thanks for all your help, Allan

im takin a stab at the fact side angles have nothing to do with it. petrols with a carby have problems with side angles. you may well have gotten air in ya lines, but it would have been due to a leak or from running outa fuel...

Thanks, as you could probably guess this is my first diesel and i don't know much about them. However i took the project on thinking it was the best way to learn. In my limited knowledge I think you right though that it wasn't to do with side angles as it was hard to start agian this morning.

Cheers, Allan

in regards to it being hard to start this morn, you are glowing it arnt you?

if you havnt checked your filters yet, do so now. while your there, check your oil level, this engine has a kill switch for low oil level...(i found this one out the hard way...)
