Winch stopped

Hi All

Was out doing a 4wd Action shoot at Landcruiser in the wet on Wednesday. Tried to climb "club rally" and got stuck due to the thick sticky mud. It was really slippery - could even walk up the hill.

So out with the winch. Had to winch a few metres/safety strap/move to a different tree/then winch a bit more...this process repeated 8 times. Took 3 hours to winch 100 metres up the hill.

Just as I got to the top, the winch refused to work inwards. The winch would work outwards, but not inwards. Very lucky as I just had enough grip to get to the top under my own steam.

Do the solenoids stop working at a certain temp? The winch was fine by the time I got to the bottom of the hill and I could spool in the excess cable.

It is a warn 9500

Cheers
Andrew

you probably had drained the batteries so much that there wasn't enough capacity left to run the winch under load ie volts dropping to much, but there would have been enough to winch out and winch in without load.

not the batteries. winch would wind out but not in with either the car running or not. I first thought it was the controller. but after a few minutes it worked finr.

What ausoops means is when you were winching in and it wasnt working was the winch under load (trying to pull the car) or were you just bringing in slack rope? You mightn't have had enough batter power left to winch in under load but still had enough to move a slack rope.

It was just to bring in the slack. Had about 8 metres of excess to wind in. no load.

At a guess I'd say either your solaniods or the switch on the dash (or in hand controler) was playing up.

Solinoids ;)

Probably worked again when cooled down?
Probably went click when you operated the winch but no one home?
