Lowering the front diff?

There's a post on the Pajero Club Forum about lifting a Pajero. A bloke has quoted on installing a 3" body lift, including lowering the front diff.

 WTF?

Anybody have any ideas what this bloke is on about?

Scott, I think the guy is a tad confused between a body lift and a true IFS lift kit (diff drop down).
We have been watching this kit for some time now made by Ultimate Suspension for the Thai military for their Strada's (our Tritons).
Offroad Industries have imported and installed a few kits already and were sorting out the set up for the Paj rear coil springs.
It's all here - http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... hp?t=10284

i have only one question WHY ? you dont get any more wheel travel plus the fact its f##########ing expensive

better of just getting some 33s or if you a really keen 35s (and dont wont to fit in shopping center car parks)

Lift. Although I would agree it isnt lift at the skid plate or a-arms.

You get the ability to get alot more lift out of the cvs. Also if they are dropping the cross members for the suspension down you are also getting alot of lift without getting your a-arms at crazy angles.

Your still lifting up the frame, transmission, and what not. Stuff you previously got hung up on.

Thanks for the replies, guys - it's good to know the bloke isn't on drugs.

I'm still not sure I understand how it works. Do they raise the chassis/engine/trans etc. by lowering the control arm mounting points and the diff?

I'm confused about whether the front cross member is lifted or not?

Thanks,

Scott (still ignorant about how his front end is bolted together  )

Yeah the chassis with the gearbox goes up but the torsion bars are spaced down with the front diff/crossmember.
The wishbones will stay in pretty much the same spot depending on how much you crank the t/bars this will also dictate front diff/crossmember clearance.
Front diff clearance is regulated the same way as a standard vehicle with the torsion bars. You get the extra body/gearbox/chassis clearance but loose out with the t/bars which are now exposed and vulnerable.
If it was a coil spring IFS (new Paj, Prado) then you would have humungous clearance as there are no t/bars hanging down. But front diff clearance is dictated by the actual coil spring lift.

Thanks Frank

I'm slightly less ignorant now :)

I dont think it would be hard to convert to coilovers. However I dont think it would be cost effective. If you going to go through the trouble of engineering the drop, the coil over mounts, and so on... a simple front crossmember for leaf springs, and a solid axle looks so much better.

God I wish I had a shop. I would try to build on of these drop kits just for the hell of it. :x

Hi Guys

As I advised pickled Dave from the Paj club forum this was an exercise to prove to Patrol and land cruiser people it was possible

And Scotty I am not on drugs mmmmmm! No

Have we worked out if it was worth doing considering a standard block lift kit of 50mm or 2 inches is about $700.00 fitted and this kits worth $1300.00 and lets not only look at the price factor

Oh yeah I forgot to mention there was a short wheel base NJ I think it was that had a 3 inches body lift and a 3 suspension lift it looked good unsure how practical it was

Sorry, but i am a bit lost.. What exactly is $1300.?? Who or where did this pricing come from? We are talking about the ifs drop down kit for pajeros right?

ME confused...?!! I thought we were talking nearly 4K for the complete kit.

from the quatation given to me a 3 inche body lift which includes the kit to drop the front diff is wirth $1300 the same kit to raise the body 2 inchs is $1000

suspension lift of 3 inches that front rear and shocks is fitted $1800

I suppose you can get one or the other or both depending what you want

by Hakan
oh yeah the 5-6 inche suspention lift is wirth $2800 fitted

Off Road industries in silverwater

Is that from Offroad Industries ??
So your saying a 2" body lift is $1000 fitted.
A 3" body lift and front diff drop down bracket is $1300 fitted.
A 3" suspension lift is another $1800 fitted.
The 5" IFS lift kit is $2800 fitted.
I can't understand why they would drop the front diff down for a body lift kit unless you were doing a suspension lift at the same time ??
If those prices are correct they have dropped the 5" lift kit price considerably.
If they do a diff drop down bracket for the 3" suspension lift then they must use the Ultimate one or have developed their own ??
Can you confirm these prices Lachlan if your reading this ??
All of this needs clarification.....................

In a previous email, pricing was still yet to be decided depending on what was required for the kit... Ball park figures were 3-4K for a kit...

it is 4k if you wold like to be raised 7-9 inches
