it will bind and could possibly turn your transfer case to shit....of course if you only use 4x4 on soft lose or slushy shit it may never happen.

Mate I don't know what your driving but everytime I up the beach either in my Zook or my 60 Sahara I only use 4hi if I have to drive at high tide or if I want to go the point on Rainbow side, usually 2hi everywhere. Hell, I don't even lock the hubs till I have to let alone deflate tyres!
Pick your travel times and its 2wd all the way.
If you do need 4x4 because the sand is really soft I don't think 1" difference will be too big a drama but DO NOT drive on hard surfaces (incl. sand) with 4x4 engaged.

not recomended, i do a similar thing though with tyres, but theyre not 1" different, i only ever put it in 4wd if i have to when stuck in mud on sites, or when driving through things for fun, as soon as im moving i wack it back to 2wd.
i would suggest getting matching tyres if relative amounts of 4wd are intended...
what size you need? i have some hilux rims and tyres i dont want :P

I think 1inch would make little difference on low traction surfaces and less difference if the tyres are large. Think of the potential diam difference between worn tyres and new ones which people do alot
