Rock Crawler Engines with a difference

As a old time fan of speedway racing and seeing some of the strongest and top quality 4cyl engines, i allways thought they would be good in a crawler. I have no plans of using any of these engines or building a buggy at this time, its more to see what people think.

This is a old link but show the Scat industries V4 about to go into a buggy
http://www.stu-offroad.com/misc/scat/scat-1.htm

and this is a Fontana industries engine
http://www.fontana-automotive.com/sealedengine.html

These engines are over the top priced brand new and still out of reach second hand at around $7500, but still interesting engines

Yes you did read right, they are way over priced but they are a bolt in engine you can be top competitive if you know how to drive though.

It's hard to see how this setup could be better in a buggy than either an LS motor or something like a WRX motor, even without the $$.

Clearly they have a niche as a speedway motor, but where rules allow, there'd have to be better options.

did you see the 2 stroke EFI outboard thread on Pirate? now that was a different motor for a comp buggy.

Found it...

Don't think it was ever finished, but on the face of it, it was cool.

Now that is different!!!
Not a cheap option but very different.

I didnt read it all but how would you set up an exhaust on something like that to replicate how a normal boat motor gets rid of its gas?

There was someone here that had a rotary engine in a buggy - if I recall correctly it would have been about 3-4 years ago so check the archives ;)

Sean from overkill runs a 13B Turbo in his right now(its in the 4 sale section for sale). And Chris(Roktoy) also ran a rotary in his. Its still around somewhere i just dont think the new owner competes in it. There have also been a few over the years built in the US.
