Hi
Contemplating fitting Cooper STT (10 Ply) 265/75/R16 on a '85 110 using Disco rims. I know I will have to adjust the steering stop bolts but the question is will the tyres rub on the rear spring tower or anywhere else on full articulation ?

That is a standard size for 110's. My Bridgestones rubbed at bit on the rear spring mounts, fixed with 1/4" spacers. Was with genuine alloys.

They will touch on the top of the rear spring mounts and on the top of the front inner guards at full articulation.
Good idea to get the Disco rims offset though.

yes, offset 20-25mm will do the trick.
any more than that and they have to be reversed.
if you don'thave the wheels yet, ring locky at procomp, he has offset rims on the shelf.

I can understand how offset rims solve the problem of rear wheels scrubbing the spring tower. Wouldn't they exacerbate the problem of scrubbing the front guards though ? What am I missing ?
Not debating, just seeking to understand.

Offset rims will mean that the sidewall is further out when the axle reaches the bumpstop, therefore no scrubbing of the rear spring tower.
I have 285/75/16's on disco rims with +30mm offset. The tyres don't scrub the towers on full articulation. You can go up to +15mm safely on disco rims without reversing. Minimum 30mm with reversing.

i don't have the problem of the tyres scrubbing or hitting the front guard.
my tyres are only 255/85/16 though. taller but skinnier.
maybe some trimming or hitting with the big tools might sort it out.
if you have access to a ramp (or hole) drive up and check yourself.
oh, my disco rims are offset 20mm.

Ben,
Those 285/75/16s
I was planning to just widen some Disco rims outwards one inch, so the centre of the tyre moves out 1/2".
Do you thinks 285/75s would touch on these wheels?

Yes I think they would rub the rear coil mounts on articulation plus rubbing the radius arms on full lock. My rims are 7" and although not recommended I think the tyres sit better on them than on 8" rims. There is also less chance of rim damage. If you want to go 8" then 8" plus 15-30mm extra offset would probably work best.
