60 series leaking, water in footwells......

I have had this issue with my cruiser for quite some time now. When it pours down, (which is does frequently in the wet season in North Queensland) I find a puddle of water on the floor in the footwells. I have a sunroof, which I taped up but still get the water. I taped up the grill at the front of the windscreen, (I have been told they can rust out inside of here) and still get water in the footwells. (I have taken off the inspection plates and the wiper motor and inside is in good condition, no leaves or rust....)

I am starting to lean towards the front door alignment and seals, as I can't find any trace of water running down the inside of the firewall anywhere, but I have found moisture on the bottom inside the seal area of the front doors. Looking at the front doors they have dropped slightly, and I think there maybe a small gap at the lower front edge between the frame and door in the guard area. I put new door seals on last year, but they were aftermarket ones and I dont have much faith in them, might look at getting toyota ones if available and if reasonable in price....

Is there anyone else out there with a 60 that has had or is suffering from this same issues?

At the moment I have my cruiser in the shed doing a rebuild, front diff, suspension, motor and box are out, for reco. (should have the block, crank, rods and head back today). So I cant really get it out side and hose it to test it. Also, whilst the engine and box is out it would be easier to fix a leak from the engine bay area, if it were from there....

Any suggestions??

thanks,

MB

I have the dash out at the moment and cant see where the has been any leaks, surely there would be some sign around the bottom of the window if it was leaking....

I cant see any water marks down the firewall at all......

it sometimes just drops straight down from the top of the windscreen to the floor.
sometimes its the bottoms of the windscreen

sometimes its the middle at the top or bottom, and runs down along the seal and drips.

get someone with a hose on " shower" and hit the roof and windscreen with it while you are inside watching, You will soon see the drip drip.

That's why i took my bungs out :D

I agree - my 75 windscreen leaks an indecent amount of water and it's almost undetectable as to where it's come from.

already have the bungs out, but the carpet soaks the water up and ends up smelling a bit nastly, the cheeze and kisses complains..... (dunno why, I smell worse!!)

I will try hosing the windscreen and see how that and see how I go.

I better get the front end back in so I can push it outside........

Dont think I would get it back in with the jockey wheel though, there is lip at the entrance to my garage.

I have to put the windows up too, and off course they are electric windows...

doh!!

I once had a problem with water leaking through where the wiring loom comes through the firewall on the drivers side. Took me ages to find where it came from.

Could be where the loom goes into the firewall, the plugs were loose.....

Sambo, when did yours get wet inside, when it was parked, not when mobile?

Sure did. It got wet every time it rained. The seal at the back of the bonnet is stuffed so there is nothing to stop the water from running down the fire wall and then through.

Have you poked any additional wires through with the loom.

I have, and there is a large hole where the previous owner has wires going through..... will seal it all up tomorrow.

Did yours make a puddle on the floor right in the corner where the floor meets the firewall? and no trace of where it was coming from?

Also try pulling off the kick panel in the foot well.... I found water dribbling down behind that and going into the foot well making all the carpet wet.

I havn't worked out if it is coming from the windscreen seal or the gutter channel running down the A pillar( I found some cracks in the caulking they use so thought it may even be coming from there)

Hope that helps.

Brighty.

I have a vinyl floor but I have put a fabric sound deadener under it. notices the hole in the vinyl where my heel always sits was always wet.

I had the same prob. Finally traced it to where the air intake for the fan/air con is. There was a build up of mud around the lip of it which allowed water to come in through and around the fan.and onto the floor. If you take the wiper motor off it's right behind that. It could be the problem or not but worth a look.

Took the wiper motor off first and checked behind there, all clear no debris and crap behind there.

Hopefully I will be able to roll it outside this weekend and get the missus to hose it while I sit in side and check. then with the weather at the moment she might not have to hose........

hey guys,
i've had 2 60 series landcruisers and both had this problem. there are 2 places where i could see the water coming in. I work at a car wash and run it threw the touchless automtaic wash(hi pressure water) and it would come in where the door seals are and in the little side windows if this helps any. door seals from toyota aint cheap so i have never bothered to fix them so cant be 100% sure thats the only place it comes in but hope it helps you

Big_60series, I reckon mine is leaking around the door seals too, somewhere around the front of the door, near the top hinge. I am hoping that some adjustment on the hinge might fix it......

I bought some aftermarket door rubbers for $50.00 each, they are ok but the rubber is not where near as good a quality as the factory seals.

I have been too scared to price factory door seals..... that is if they are even still available....

I looked into factory door seals a few years ago. I think they were about $160 per door.

Obviously got some from a rubber place too.
