Hi guys and gals
I have a mate that has a stuffed bearing in side his 80 series transfer case on a full time4 wheel drive.
I was wondering what would be involved in changing the bearings and resealing the transfer case and how long it would possibly take and also how hard the job would be?
Any info would be appreciated, im sorry I dont have any more info on the vehicle, although im positive its not a turbo diesel.
Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it.

the time and effort involved in that sort of job depends almost entirely on the skill and experience of the people involved and the tools available. It's not rocket science, but neither is it lego. if a bearing is blown in the transfer, chances are other parts will also be broken or badly worn by the wear debris and misalignment caused by the blown bearing. 80's transfers are getting cheaper and are widely available - it might be more sensible to try and pick up a second hand unit.

changing the transfer on and off the back of the gearbox is easy and can be done in about 2 - 3 hours for the average backyard mechanic with help to left it out and in.

Is it leaking oil from the front yoke. If so, may have broken off the ring of aluminium that retains the bearing circlip. Seems be a common problem with the full time transfers.
