dewse slow build up

Well this is my rig a year ago when I first bought it.
Not that fancy, just a few bits and peices:

A few changes have been made like 29" bfg muds/racks/ff1000 spotties/bling split fire gauges. But mainly money has been spent fixing the motor and the X missus. DOH

Apart from money the only other things stopping me is figuring out what type suspension setup I should run, size of tire, what gears...etc

Alot of my driving is on beachs because I live on the coast but I want to drive a bit more on wet sloppy hill climbs. With the current setup I feel like its tipping when I take it up the kurb in front of my house!!

Money is tight at the moment because of uni fees.
I still have to decide on what setup then i'll make a budget, suppose i'll be trying to get something medium core. Thinking about S1 rh, 31, ome suspension but i'm very tempted to follow in big steves foot steps

Possibly the whitest sierra ever

Take off the bull bar and watch that performance climb.

other el-cheapo mods to consider:
1. Remove anti-sway bar
2. weld that rear diff

Don't be silly it had only be repainted about 1 month before that pic!

Well my idea is as follows:

- Remove bar change to standard (good idea greg, just need to get a standard bar)
- remove sway bar
- 2" Body lift
- 2" spring lift ome
- S1 R/H
- 31/2 tires (don't know what kind?)
- Welded rear

Opinions would be great

Lets start the debate up AGAIN SPOA no need for body lift and can run 31/32 tyres. :finger: :D
SAM

i think we want to see 35's with no body lift and no spring lift

That sounds like a costly exercise considering I need new springs as well.
Have a friend hwho has spoa, 2" spring, climax drop shakles in rear on 30" tires and that looks really tall!

So sam what is better spoa or spua....... :D

As a budget tire is the mongrel any good, I mean I have heard skippy talk about them and he said their great. And damo has them but I don't thinks he's had a good chance to wheel them.
Why arn't other poeple using them?

Overkill has them on his hardtop reckons they do ok ;)

not as cheap as i thought they were though round $180 for a 32 x 10.5

Well if you consider that I live in WA you can guess that price will be around $200 each, but still better then the price I payed for the bfg muddies. How does it compare to the mtr's?

What setup have you got on your hardtop overkill?

Well I think the mtr's are a better tire and if they are the same price then I suppose thats what I would want.

hehe wouldn't suprise me if they were 37's or something.

when you say you are gunna go back to standard bar , i take it your talking bumper, with 31's it wont go on ! you need to cut the tubes in front of your wheels (else your 31's wont fit) and than what you gunna mount the bumper too? don't change any thing until after berridale , than you can see for yourself what will suit your style best (mind you i don't think there's many slippery hills just ROCKS)

my set up is way too high 2"springs spoa 2"body lift all on a narrow track but panels can be beated back out.

Yeah I'm hoping that I will be able to make it over there to check things out. But uni may become a problem.

I might have to pm overkill and order one of his bling bling bars otherwise I could modify the standard bumper to attach to the chassis. I think :?

I'll take some updated photo's tonight.

Hey Drewse and stressed, you both from WA? where from.

Mongrels 32" are $177 each based on simex extrem trekker.

Just FYI, I have a NT and going for 31/32 and planning on SPUA rears up front. 2"spring lift, 2"body lift and 1" extended shackles. should clear 31's easy.

Cheers

Nic

Dewse, I am looking at doing what nicbeer has suggested aswell.
Should be cheap and effective. Hopefully be all done in the next few weeks.

Also in WA so you should come and see how it goes (read : learn from our mistakes)

I am doing a body lift and 1lt trans case swap soon, if you are keen.
Give me a Pm!

- S3 rh
- RUF 2" raised ome spings
- 34" TSL
- extended shackles
- ex brake lines
- ex shock and shock mounts
- Lots of grinding

You did well to pick all that up from the photo ;)

So to make a budget I will need about?

- S3 rh $1300
- RUF 2" raised ome spings $880 for spings, have the stuff for the chassis ex allready
- 34" TSL about $400 a tire, set of 4 $1600
- extended shackles $100
- ex brake lines ???
- ex shock and shock mounts $135 each so about $540
- Lots of grinding
- Body lift $200

So for a very basic setup about $5000 does that sound right?
I would do all the labour myself.

Then I would have to get diff and bead lockers

s3 RH is $1600 with all new bearings in a rebuilt tcase.
My tyres cost $300 each
My Shackles cost $50
Factor in new bushes (OME's didn't come with any)
My shocks cost $135 each as opposed to basically $200 for Ranchos and mine are softer than 9012's

You will also need rims and seeing though you are WT they will need to be ofset or the tyres will majorly hit the springs, my rims are 2.5 inch back spaced and I still touch the springs just before full lock.

I set aside $5500 to cover mods and rego.

Still have to get the rollcage and beadlocks so there is another $1000 at least.
