Creeper Joint Shackle Mounts

Am getting some custom springs made for the 40 at the moment which are a lot longer then std. and will require the rear shackle mount to be moved back 4 inches. Was just going to flip the std mount but then was browsing
www.locktup4x4.com.au and seen these.

Anyone got any experience or thoughts on these? Seem cheap enough ($129 a pair including postage) and might help me stop chewing through so many of the tiny bushes my 40 runs.

considerations might be
1. Legality, although i suspect with the rest of the mods/suspension on your truck that it's not particularly an issue for you. They would be be pretty hard to notice anyway.
2. Ride. I would suspect that you might get a little more road vibration transferral but it might be offset by the longer springs you are planning being a little more compliant.
3. reversability if you don't like them. it looks like you have to weld them on.
4. You will HAVE to run shackles with a welded centre bar to stop distortion under side slope loads. I found that as my bushes flogged out the sideways loads were transferred to the shackles.
Having said all of that, i think they have the potential to work really well, and eliminate bush wear, and also free up the springs to travel better. You will find that the spring no longer has to twist along it's length to accomodate angular differences between the axle and chassis. Would also be a better/more predictable option than scissor shackles.

I think ive seen these setup on a 4wd before.. (can't remember if it was a 40 or just wishful thinking).. wouldn't you need stiffer shocks to combat the roll they'd possibly introduce when corning too?

Simillar sort of idea as the orbital eyes from alcan. Should produce simillar results.

I've been thinking along this way for the zook but not on the shackle end of the spring the chasse mount end

I like the Alcan idea, lets the spring move but keeps the shackle 90 degrees to the chassis so diff is laterally located properly.
If you fit the Locktup ones to the chassis, what stops the diff/s moving sideways? Like the pic below?(Although it is exaggerated because of shackle length)

I'm going to run some on my rig, Twisty, so I will let you know how they go.

I've seen on pirate forum a link to some shackles with a twist in the centre similar to the superior drop shackles but without the "drop" function. These might negate the need for the fancy mounts??

Yeah, I think they would be pretty hard to notice, and I hardly drive it on the road anymore anyway. Part of the reason for the new custom springs is a batter ride, so would be interesting to know how much rougher it would be without normal type bushes.

Never thought of that, and as you mention, looks like that could happen very easily when using these.

That'd be great
Cant find any of info or feedback from people running these on the net, but did find these two pics.

just an idea guys, totally out there.
If you found that the lateral movement was excessive, it wouldn't be that difficult to make a bolt on panhard rod would it. big u bolts around the chassis for the chassis mount and similar for the axle end.

Yeah, I did read on Pirate 4x4 about a guy who had a similar shackle mounts front and rear and needed panhard rods to keep it drivable.

ToyMad in Toowoomba had a similar style in the back of his lux for years.
He had the one Lay80 posted -

Scott at Superior Springworks did them for him. (07) 46343666
Custom Leaves with orbitial eyes front and rear and in the shackels. Worked really well.

As you can see in the pics the diff will move but very little so I don't see it being a problem as long as every thing has been clearnaced to allow for this. That my be harder than a ute for a tubbed 40....
