Hello People Pros and Cons

Baja vs STT's

Hey mate, I have used STT's both old style and new on all three of my 4wd's. The new style I have used on my last two. The STT's are a great tyre they are quiet, bag out well and have a super tough side wall. The Baja's are also a great tyre (from what I have heard) and a bit more aggresive but I can't vouch for their strength. I think the real question comes down to how much you want to spend the Baja's are a little more money plus they are directional, you need two spares one for the left and one for the right. I hope this has helped Regards, Nick.

The bajas slip sideways easily, I can vouch for that.

I also saw a mates STTs aired down the same as my claws and they didn't bag well IMO, too stiff a sidewall.

Two years of hard work and my claws have hardly chipped and never torn.

In the end it depends on where and what you will drive in/on.

Cheers

I find claws fairly quiet with ok handling for a serious muddie.

Cheers

i did a bit of looking around for reviews on tyres and found this site which after looking through them quickly and at the star ratings for differant surfaces the yokohama came up as a very good MT tyre which also rates highly on other surfaces. a few tyres rated as 4stars with it but none had as high across the range and the only tyre i saw to get 5stars in mud was the boger.

I absolutely hated my radial claws they were one of the worst tyres i have had. I have STTs on the Prado and had MTZs on the Lux I would buy MTZs over the other two. I have been unimpressed by the STTs and wouldnt buy them again.

They wore way to fast barely got 10,000ks from them, they were crap offroad after the first half a dozen trips. Were terrible on wet roads, were noisy, basically just a crap tyre allround. The only good thing about them were they looked good

I have a 80 series cruiser, I have was advised by a 4wd shop to use the Cooper's ST's. They had only 2000 klm's road use before I went on a 20 000 klm trip mainly on dirt nothing I would classfy as hard core. I end up with plenty of Tread on the ST's but had chips and chunks ripped of them, 2 tyres had chunks ripped out down to the steel belts. When I got back and showed the tyres to the shop, they were suprised and advised me to contact Coopers direct where upon they replaced 4 tyres at no cost with the STT muddies. I have no issues with the STT's they perform much better than the ST's, STT's bag out alot better compared to the ST's.I did abit of investigating and found that the ST's are not suited to heavy 4WD like my 80 series and are proned to severe chipping on these style of 4WD, Coopers even made a comment confirming this and would have recommended to use the STT's straight up. :?

Not doubting you, but what tyre are you comparing to, as most the things you've listed are the opposite to what i've experienced.d

MY experiences with them is that they are better in the wet than BFG muddies, and BFG All terrains. offroad they are much better than both those tires too (same rig, same track, the claws would go places the All terrains wouldn't... even though it was locked with the AT's, and open diffed on the Claws.). they were Quieter than the BFG All terrains, an on par with the BFG muddie, and i got 30 000 out of them before i gave them back to my brother, with still 50% tread.

Id run MTRs or MTZ s over the Claws anyday and the Krawlers I am running currently totally destroy the Claws in everything as well. I know I am in the minority with my dislike for them but I was that unimpressed it took a lot of convincing for me to try another Mickey Thompson tyre. I will never run Claws again.

What sort of conditions do you usually drive in? i'm trying to work out how we both have polar opposite opinions. not saying you should love em or i'll hate em by the end of it.

At that time Rover park, Levuka, and Cruiser were the most common places I went to so everything from rock to mud.
