Outer Limits 4x4 Board

A while back someone here posted a pic of their very cool retractable light bar mounted to their rollcage. From memory it was held by a short gas strut.

I am chasing pics of this setup if anyone knows what I am on about.

yes i do remember that truck, was it green br any chance??? cos thats the one i saw if it the same one, it had the gas strut that held the light bar, and was able to fold backwards when not needed???

Oh, as an aside, I'd use two lighter gas struts by choice as there's a bit of flutter on the LHS light- the mount flexes a bit.

It's not a big problem and I already had the strut, but if you're shopping for struts, look for two rather than one.

steve, i think they missed the point of your simplicity in your design by using struts and not air rams. **sorry, in the other thread**
couldnt think of anything more anoying than a compressor contionually going on and off just to hold down (or up) a set of roof lights, but than they think, why have air to it all the time, what stops the rattle?? than so on and so on

I think you've missed the point your self bud.
Use the right double action air rams and over centre hinge and they stay where they are at neutral preasure,go up with positive and down with negative or positive to the other side. solonoid from the tank doesn't open until you hit the switch, compressor doesn't come on unless you keep hitting the switch.
No vibration and simple enough.

I would like to build something like this (steve's design) but in a bolt on application.
Reasons for this:
1) It will be useless to have it there with a full top on AND the brackets would cut into the soft top.

2) I only want to run it with a bikini top

Would this be ok to do though? Like steve mentioned earlier that his strut is a 650N unit. If I were to bolt it to the cage, it would have to be extremely tight around the bar to hold that pressure. I would run it the majority of the way across the top bar in order to have 4 spotlights rather than just 2 though. Would this work or would it all just fall apart because of the force of the struts?

yeah i know about that thread, I have read the whole lot but still prefer steve's design. I mean it is a softop, I can move it on the go or atleast the passenger can it is just behind your head. I figured that this thread would be a better place to post this as it is more suzuki specific.
