engine swap

Hi all,
I'd like to replace the 6G72 12V SOHC 3.0L in my '92 Pajero with a 6G74 24V SOHC 3.5L. Is it a drop-in replacement physically? IOW, are the motor mounts in the same location and will the output mate-up/bolt-up to the V5MT1 gearbox ?

G'day mate,
I wanted to do this as well however, every person I spoke to about it all said the same thing. It's not worth the effort.
Apparently it will not bolt straight in. Everything associated with the old engine will have to be changed or modified to suit the new engine (Mounts, Trans, Wiring, Computer, and also a 2" body lift. The 6G74 is a taller engine than the 6G72.
I must reiterate this is what I have been told by many people, I couldn't find anyone you'd actually done it.
I ended up rebuilding my 3.0L and I'm happy with the result.

you could look at getting a quad cam 62g72 from a gto or diamante. even the twin turbo from the gto....

I know this is an old post but I have done this conversion and its well worth it but hard. I used the 6G74 from a Magna with my old 6G72 heads.
You don't need a lift kit, the trans bolts up, used old injectors, distributor etc. The car pulls very well, down low is brilliant. There are some headaches to do it, so if you are thinking about it drop me a line first.

yeah...how about the computer and wiring harness does it need changing? and how about the engine mounts ? im about to send my 6g72 12v engine for a rebuild but give me another good option and ill do it....id love some extra info about this as im about to start working on mine this week. whats the hardest part?..and need to do it asap

As I said its hard and I am a one finger typist, Engine mounts bolt up but need to be spaced out/ slight mod, ECU and wiring unchanged. Heads need a minor modification. Air con and power steer are ok. You need a Pajero 6G74 sump and pick up. You need manifold spacers for the intake. Front exhaust pipe needs to be altered. The front part, ie cam drive and pullies is the hardest part but its been done twice I know of.

Why not go to the 24V 3.0 SOHC engine? That's the one I intend to pursue.

I recon the 24v option is going to be a big job. Just quickly looking at the 12v and 24v side by side you will run into wiring issues, disy issues, power steering and alt issues and thats just a start. What steve at rising sun has done sounds alot easier since you need a rebuild anyway.

You could but it will be just as hard and you will need the Pajero engine and that will cost you. you would need to rewire, ecu etc
