Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey all, I've got an old (like, 7 years) Uniden $50 UHF... i know, you're already thinking "chuck it in the bin ffs"... but its handy if an inexperienced mate comes along, to have in his car for communication... now, the problem im having is it can listen in fine over about 1km, but cant transmit over about 50m, 20m if we're moving... and even then its flaky.... but its got no issue in physically blocking the channel, ive been telling the user of it that 2 clicks is no and one click is yes... then i can ask yes no questions and we can communicate.. lol

Any idea on whats wrong??? im prepared to do surgery...

Check for corrosion on the mike key contacts.
Could also be a dry solder joint to the aerial.
If you have a small soldering iron, just go through all the joints and re-set them. (heat just enough to melt the solder to renew the join)

had same issue with my 25W gme.. burt out some thing inside, $100 it was fixed.

if its for mates your worried, buy a pr of cheap hand helds. or better still tell them to buy one.

i've got a new GME handheld on the way, so my "better" uniden one can be whored out, but its always worthwhile having spares =)
