The factory ones are the 3.54:1 and the 4.7:1 (series rigs and are very weak). I think ashcroft make a 4.1:1 and there are a couple of others that are made in the US.

But basically in terms of ring and pinion strength rover is about the weakest there is :(

If you want lower gears then IMO the best bet is to stay with the 3.54s and get the maxi gear set for the lt230 transfer box (thats if you got one of these)

I got a set of the Ashcroft 4.11s - best thing I have done to to the truck as it compensated (in both high and low range) for the bigger tyres.
Changing the transfer case gears for the maxidrive crawler gears will only drop low range, but you may also be able to then change the high range ratios for one of the 4 landrover variants and end up with results you like.
For rockcrawling a set of the maxidrive transfer case gears would be great, together with some 4.11s would be magic.
Great Basin Rovers is the only place I have found selling the strong 4.7s (as opposed to the weak old 4.7s in the series trucks)

McNamara also makes 4.1s but I was advised to stay away, Not as strong, uses spacers etc. Ashcroft ones are apparently the go.

I ended up swapping the Lt230 1.2 hi range gear for a defender 1.4. Same effect, although defender transfer cases are getting hard to find.

And I had the maxidrive crawler 30% installed at the same time. Brilliant, makes a huge difference..

i finding high range to high on road which is causing clutch wear very quickly i and looking at 4.1 maybe 3.9 not sure yet depends what i can get .. how much is the 1.4 from a defender roughly?
