My Boss is looking at replacing his Subaru Forester with a larger (medium sized) 4x4... here's the basic requirements (Other than the usual reliable, efficient, power etc):
- 2 Adults, 2 Young Kids plus Camping Gear
- 90% on road
- 10% off road - Beach work and some mud/rock on occasion
- Must tow a medium sized boat (not a dingy, but not a 40ft yacht)
- Low range gearbox preferred
- Price range up to $45,000

Being a Suzuki owner, i've already suggested the 6cyl GV - His current line of thought is a Kia Sportage though...

So, what do we all think?

What are the Hyundai Terracan CRDi's worth? I know they are a popular mid sized 4wd, At horse events every 3rd 4wd towing a float is a Terracan. Have driven our friends Highlander and even though i hate Hyundai's. Its bloody comfy, Economical, the little diesel packs a punch and they haven't had any issues what so ever. That would be my choice.

Soon Suzuki will be releasing a new series of powertrains in the GV so he might want to hold off a couple of months if possible ;)

My wife has got a Kia Rio that she's had for about 7 years now and it's been faultless but out of those two, I'd be going for the Vitara. I don't think the Kia Sportage has a tranfer box anymore.

im pretty sure kia runs mazda motor (good) but the body and the like are absolute ass.
mind you id never buy a gv and for transporting that many people would have to pick sumfin a lil bigger as everything is that size/type 4wd i can think of is crap they are all cars with 4wd nots 4wd's

Just remember that the Suzuki's cant tow anything very heavy.

The tow rating is fine but the downward ball weight is stuff all.

E-mail me at work with details of what year and model his considering and I'll put a list together of what ratings for what car.

download on the towball is less on the zuk than the kia, but the zuk can pull more braked and unbraked...

He's shopping for brand spanking =)

Theres an overwhelming swing towards the zuk here too - im impressed! i hear these polls have a 2% margin for error too... haha

look at all the diesel options

KK jeep cherokee
kia sorento
Jeep wrangler unlimited
jeep patriot no low range
holden captiva no low range
hyundai terrican

they will all get much better fuel economy, be better than towing

don't know if the japs have any good mid size diesels
