uhf wire up

can someone please give me a few steps on how to wire up my uhf.
as in the ariel to.

best way is to run power cables directly from the battery terminals making sure that you fuse the + wire as close as possible to the battery. Splicing into the existing accessory wiring may cause problems with interference for the UHF and loading for the other accessories, however you will have to remember to turn the UHF off when you leave the car as it wont turn off by itself.

The Arial should in most cases come with its own co-ax cable attached, so its just plugging it in to the UHF. Most standard UHF CB radios come with a SO239 plug on the back and the arial should come with a PL259 plug which screws in. You may need to strip the co-ax and solder this plug on, difficult to explain how this is done without pictures, but there are plenty on the web. Also with UHF radios, the rule is generally, the shorter the co-ax cable, the better reception you will get, however keeping it the lenght it comes from the factory is acceptable if you think you will be moving things around in the future. Just try to avoid coiling the co-ax, fully unwind it like you would a power extension lead at home.

Your coax cable is made up of 4 parts.
outer black insulation
wire braid
inner white insulation
core

to fit the PL259 plug to your co-ax

1 - cut back black outer insulation about 30mm - dont discard cut off piece,
2 - cut back braid about 25mm
3 - cut back inner white insulation 20 mm

4 - fold braid back over black insulation.
5 - cut about 3mm of left over black outer insulation from 1 and slide over white insulation and but up against braid
6 - Insert coax into plug by 'screwing' it onto the braid. Most of the braid will dissappear into the plug but some may still be exposed. (It is a tight fit)
7 - solder tip of plug where centre conductor is exposed.
