Hi, Runnin 35's on a 93 Xtra cab Hilux, 2.8D Turbo. Its had a solid axle conversion. Still got standard diff in rear and a 4.31 diff in front. Wanna convert to 5.29 ratio diffs is this my best option? Its my daily driver, and see's the dirt about once a month. Need a bit more power, and see this as my best option. As towing a camper trailer is a bit of a stuggle sometimes. If ya can help please do so, i'm open for suggestions. Or lead me in the right direction to buy this setup.

Please PM me or sms/call me on 0403211461.

Cheers from Matt.

4.88 or 5.29 would be good with 35" tires. But if you think you may go to a bigger tire later on go with the 5.29.

A point to keep in mind is the pinion is tiny on a hilux diff when you run such low ratios.

4.88's i could nurse and get them to last a while, but 5.29's never seemed to last long.

The drivability with 5.29's is awesome though. I wasted a lot of money trying to keep running them.

This was when my surf was running a 2.8 turbo intercooled diesel with 35 claws.

I had problems with 5.29 braking years ago and I went to 4.88. I've been running the same 4.88 gear set for 6 years. With my 4.88 gear set I have been through 3 Detroit's and I'm not sure how many front and rear axles shafts. Tire sizes from 38" to 40" comp spec tires. After braking an output shaft a few months ago I decided to change over to 5.29. I still haven't done that, its on the to do list. Almost everyone I wheel with now run 5.29 with tire sizes from 35" to 42". I haven't seen any fail and these guys drive there rigs like they stole'em.

Just a little more info for you.

My old sasd surf runs 5.7s runs 38 tsls dual cases gets a hammering alot and they hold up fine.

A lot has to do with the setup of the gears and also the type of gears.

5.29s will be fine.
