Hi Guys

I have recently purchased a 1985 Sierra and i'm having troubles with the transferecase.

When try to change from either hi 4 or low 4 to HI 2 the gearlever becomes stuck in a position were it wont move and i cant get any gear and the only way to get a gear is to remove the gear stick and use a screwdriver to lever the two selector rods into neutral and then refit the gear stick.

most likely your shift bushing is worn. it's the circular hard rubber bush that the ball of the lever sits on. pull it out and get a new part. also check your oil levels.

i think NAM is right. i had the same prob a while back. i bought a genuine suzuki part to replace it from a suzuki dealer and still only cost $15.

yeah I got stuck in the bush for nearly 2 hours with same prob.
once we got it back into gear we found we had to hold the gear stick up to move it. otherwise if fell inbetween the gear I guess and got stuck.

got the bush replaced by a pro and it cost $50
this is before I was game to touch the car, I would do it myself now, its easy.

This issue can be avoided .. even with a worn shifter seat ..
you should always move the shifter like |_| this and not U .. as this is waht causes the shiftyer to get missaligned ..

(note to self .. get new shift seat only been stuffed for 4 years now)
