question on 60 series rear main seal?

i have a 84 petrol 2f 60 series, cant see it dropping oil anywhere except for the rear of the motor after a long run!
my question is can i change the rear main in the car? without pulling the box/motor out? i just cannot be bothered pulling anything apart to far....

I can't see it being done without pulling the Box. I wouldn't worry about it until you have to maybe get the clutch done.

At the end of the day, if your cluch is still in good nick, you're prob better off ripping the box out and replacing the rear main seal otherwise by the time it gets that bad that it HAS to be replaced, chances are you will have to do the clutch as well due to all the oil being flicked around the insides of the bell housing and covering the clutch/pressure plates & flywheel.

I've pulled the box out of my 2H cruiser quite a few times now... and up until the last time about 2yrs ago, I could have it on the garage floor within an hour of starting ....using one trolley jack, and that's without the use of air tools!!!

i really have no idea how good the clutch is (seems to be fine at the moment), only just got the beast! i might just wait (for more $$) and do it all at once clutch and seal.

and i would also do the seal on the front of the box to as i made the mistake..
i put a new clutch in with machined flywheel and new rear main seal and after about a week that front seal on the box started to leak

I had mine leaking, wasn't replaced when clutch went.. clutch ended up lasting a whole 25,000 before it had to be replaced aswell.
It's a bit like stuffed if you do stuffed if you don't.. but if you have the $$ i'd just get the box out and replace the seal and clutch at the same time, if the clutch looks ok, then keep it.. but it's usually better to change it if you can afford it.
