After market gears in a 84' onwards 1lt transfer.

Hi guys,
I thought I had read in the bible somewhere (could not find it again) that you can fit after market reduction gears to an 84' onwards 1lt (4x4 light) T-case, is this correct?
I would like to fit new 4.16:1 gears to my 1lt t-case as the hi-range reduction stays the same, I have considered the rocklobster t-case mod but i don't like the idea of the hybrid gear involved in this sort of mod even though it has been very successful over the years......
Has anybody here done this to a 1lt transfer or confirm it can be done for sure?
I want a lower low range but do not want/need any more reduction in hi-range as with my current set-up of Vitara 1.6, Sierra 1.3 5spd box, 1lt t-case, and 4.11 diff ratios running on 31" Cooper st's i'm at approx 4000rpm at 100kmph so you can see why i don't want things to change here!
Any help is appreciated!
