There is some one else on the list with a std VH45 in a shorty GQ (Kyle where are you).
Also try www.aus4wd.com.au as they have done some of these conversions, my last enquiry the cost was about $12 000 drive in drive out. Thats fully road going with nothing extra you have to do.
Which to me doesnt sound like to bad a price from what people are charging for chevs to be done.

I got told a price of roughly $5k for a 5L holden V8 conversion, but I won't count on this until I actually get a real quote.
I think the VH45 conversion should be much cheaper than that if you do some of it yourself.
But I dunno. I would *really* like to do this conversion myself if I could. It seems that the people who've already done it should be able to provide the gearbox-engine connection - a bellhousing or adaptor that mates the two together and spaces the engine forward sufficiently to clear the firewall.
They also should be able to provide engine mounts or diagrams for engine mounts.
I'm not worried about getting all the ancillaries working as I am pretty sure I could do that myself, and moving other stuff around the engine bay should be fine too.
That leaves getting the ECU to work without the auto box. I've no idea what's involved in that. Surely, given that an Infinity halfcut can be gotten for $3k or so, the conversion could be done for under six...?
But then, the well-trod path of a chevy or windsor conversion starts to look more appealing from a hassle perspective, so I just don't know...

Hazard has the twin turbo vh45 using the infinity auto. All he got was the output bits of a GQ auto, which allowed it all to be mated to the transfercase. Also since it is a much shorter motor you could also fit a dualcase kit, and leave the transfer crossmember in the orig spot.
Which ever way I go I will try and do as much as I can, but since I aint no mechanic will get some work done by the pro's (like engine mounts and a bit of the wiring). But should be able to pull all the old stuff out though.
As for alt/ps these should just require new hose and some new wire to the batts. AC will require a trip to the aircon shop though (maybe).

Yeah... I know this would be easier (although the promotive guys at the URL I posted claim that the infinity transmission has been the weak spot... then again they are twin turboed). Problem is I HATE AUTOMATICS. I just hate them. So whatever conversion I do - and I think I'll do one one day - will have to retain a manual gearbox.

Why would you need more revs?? A v8 is no different, you need power down low for 4 wheeling

Don't be absurd. A good motor has power down low and a nice steady supply of power as you climb the revs too.
I guess it depends on whether you're used to good engines or not...

I fixed my TB42 redline by swapping to a 3 litre tacho, who says they can't hold at 6000rpm?
You can fix valve bounce by wearing a full face helmet too, you may have to crank up the stereo to hear it though

Fuel Pumps
Surge tank
Relays
Fuse box
air filter
custom brakets
custom hoses
driveshafts
thermos + switch + relays
dash mods (tacho)
engine mounts
x-member mods
accelerator cable
heat shielding
ancillary belts
etc etc etc.......
and thats without all the extras for a manual conversion! Trust me it all adds up in the end!

I was sooooo close to doing the old engine conversion thing but after a lot of thought on everything I would need it does add up considerably. And that is only a reasonably low tech and simple set up holden motor!
The old saying of what you think it will cost and then double it really does ring true with motor conversions most of the time.
I guess it also depends on how professional you want the job to be also a bit. Do it right and neat and it will cost big$$$$$$$$

If money is a big issue for an upfront V8 conversion then do wat im doing...........
Make a list of wat u need and slowly collect it over several months then when u got it all, just spend a weekend putting it in.

What about all the things that you didn't know you needed till you did it........ if you think it will take a weekend then allow two weeks...... if you think it will cost 5k allow 10.......
Done a few engine conversions and its never as easy as it first seems, and you can plan and plan and plan but something always crops up!
Very true, but getting in good preperation is also a bonus as there is less to stuff around with on the time of the conversion.

Nah I sold it a couple of months ago..... from what I understand the new owner is rapped with it.......
Fuel economy was better than the TB42, which still isn't saying much. But at least it had the power to match the fuel consumption....... 25+L/100km. Was more like 30 with the TB.

Did u run LPG at all? And wat sort of V8 were u running?

This was the VH45, infinity V8.
Of course if I had of driven it a little more sedately i'm sure figures would have been somewhat different!

the stock manifolds won't fit??
Oh well.... he's gunna be in for some serious $$
he is paying around $2k for a complete front cut, but it has been sitting a while and i think there is no warranty
hands and mums dont count!!!
