I have $30 grand and if needs be have a harley streetrod with 9000km on it to sell as well about ($22 000) but would take $10 grnad out and buy myself a sports bike for around that price.
I was going to start with a GQ wagon petrol auto as I would like to put a chev in it later, and cut it down to a extra cab, rear tray, front winch bar, f/r air lockers, rock sliders, high mount winch, internal cage to ccda specs, 4-5 inch lift, 1 inch body lift, fab front diff, upgrade control, panhard and trailing arms.

Is it do able with $40 grand or buy something?

Any info would be good.

Kind regards.

Save yourself the headache and get something already built, personalise it as much as you like but all the hard work has been done for you.

There's one more MWB GQ that I can't find that's been for sale for a while, I'm sure it was around the $40k mark and looked the goods.

The cost all depends on how much, if any, you can do yourself. If you're payin' someone to do it then 40G aint gunna go too far.
Buying someone's elses project is a good way to get into it, you'll never build one for what you can buy one for.

Yep shop around, don`t be in a hurry and you`ll find something (most makes and models) fully built for under 25g.

what sport are you talking about? Winch challenge, navigation stuff, high speed stuff, rockcrawling, what? Have alook at what the rigs are in the particular sport you are talking about and get ideas from what is successful. Get in touch with the organisers and find out what the requirements and specs are to compete, no point building stuff if it can't be used

I'll throw my 2c in here, just cause. Although i dont have a comp truck (and never will  ), i vote that you hunt around, be patient, and wait for something to pop up thats already had the money spent on it. You see it all the time, people overspending on projects only to realise that they cant finish it off, or cant afford to run it - and thats when you jump in with your offer.

Take your time though, dont let the rush of blood to your head catch you out.

Thanks to all that responded to my topic.
I took all advice on board and have been researching for sometime on building or buying.
I have opted to find something done, and think I have found 1 just have to have a look at it.
Thank you again and if things go okay will be on track soon.
