Question about flares for older lux's

Hi I have a 1984 Lux single cab, and I've been looking for a long time, but can't seem to find any proper fibreglass flares for my model truck. I have the rubber flares on it at the moment, but i have been told that I need fibreglass ones to cover the width of my tyres.
Is there a way to modify the later model lux flares to fit and if so how would I? Thanks if you can help.
