\ will a td42 starter motor fit a tb42 apart from the 3 bolt configuration . are the gear tooth pitch the same. doing a auto / to manual swap ; gear box i got is out of a diesel.easier to find a starter than a petrol bellhousing

People just drill and tap the extra hole in the TB42 bellhousing to fit a diesel starter, so at a guess I'd say the petrol starter will just bolt in with an extra hole?

U may find the TB42 starter won't start the diesel properly as the TD42 is a reduction gear type and the TB42 is standard type.

the TD42 starter is huge compared to the TB42 starter.

thanks for the help guys.But what i have is a diesel bell housing i am bolting to the 4.2 petrol . starter bolt holes are different so rather than finding a petrol bellhousing i thought i would see if a diesel starter could be used on the petrol.
