So whats a welded rear diff like to drive around?
I was thinking of going a lockrite in the back and a welded front...

i would go the other way, i had a detroit in the rear and personally think that the spool is better.

But then I would be driving on a locked diff on the road all the time.
With std axels wouldn't it be too risky?

i would weld the front unless you have lotsa $ for new cvs and are real good at changing them, and it will also make it a bitch to turn when your wheeling. (unless you drive round in 3wd)
save and get an air locker for the front

heres something for you to ponder.......welded front and rear with longs, would cost about 900 and you wont break a cv.

I'm probably spoiled by air lockers but I have to say I wouldn't like the front locked on me all the time.

im running standart tyres and rims, driving around with a fully locked rear isnt nice when you going to fast around corners, for offroading it increases traction, and saves you $$$$ from buying an airlocker for the rear

I'm welded in rear ARB up front. You would'nt no it was locked in rear untill you trun a real tight corner.i run 35's. no dramers with rear end strenght and its been over 12months.

P.S YOU WILL NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE IN TYRE WEAR THOUGH

The rear of my Cruiser is welded and I dont have power steering yet, so I feel it on almost every corner. To cut down on tyre wear I take every corner as wide as I can, and if I have to make a sharp turn into another street I carry heaps of speed into the corner and the body roll takes the weight off the inside wheel. Luckily, I have bikes for transport and only use the Cruiser for off-road.

if i dont really like the welded diff on the road, i could always change it to an open centre. And when i go offroading i could always put the locked one back on

that would be a pain in the arse, + u need to buy another centre

I was thinking of doing the same but i cant afford tyres every couple of months so i think i'll save for a locker , welding the front breaks cv's that don't sound good i'll think i will give that a miss too

At the moment i am very capable of swapping diffs, so if i dont like the locked one i can always put back in the open centre, and before wheeling put the locked one back on 8)
