valve clearances

Just wondering if anyone can give advice on adjusting the valve clearances. I have done this before on other vehicles and have the
feroza bible handy to tell me the ranges of adjustment when hot and
cold.....my question's are:

(1) does this engine prefer erring on the tighter
or looser side for the valves? and
(2) does anyone recommend a particular clearance?

cheers, Ben.

IMO setting with feelers is very subject to user "feel" and varies substantially.
Unfortunately few use a micrometer to develop experience in what the correct "feel" is - so the clearances vary substantially.

I always seem to get a better job when done cold as its a pita when its hot and to do it quickly enough is a challenge.

IIRC the cold clearance is tighter than the hot ( the head expands more than the valve ) so therefore they seem to like it tighter than looser.... but there's a limit of course and I always use the factory recommended clearance...

Just my opinion of course.

I tried doing them "hot" on my old Charade and it was a right PITA because tightening the locking nut causes the clearance to vary :x and of course the engine was cooling while I was stuffing around. I left the Feroza to a mechanic....

Be careful of the top alloy cam cover as they're easy to break.
