Waterproofing airbox

Hi Guys,

On my last wheeling trip I got about half a cup of water in my airbox catch can - that little can that attaches to the bottom of the airbox. Seems like it is coming in the felt seals on the lid and little catch can.

Any ideas on the best way to seal these things up?

Thanks.

Louis

if you have a factory snorkie, keep in mind that toyota do NOT rate them as a water snorkel!

The seal where it goes from the guard piece to the pillar is nothing but a bit of foam and is NOT water proof.

You have felt seals on your catch can and lid? The HZJ79 i have for work has rubber seals on both of those!

Also check the one way valve in the bottom as it supposed to let water out and stop it coming in

The one way valve was buggered so I plugged it. Ya it has felt seals - no idea why but all the mine trucks here that I have seen have them. Oh, and the airbox top is off an HDJ81 because of the turbo - so it is felt as well.

So were you driving deep water holes or stuff over the bonnet or was it just raining and puddles

Deep water- found the problem, seems there was a hole in the intake part of the airbox - got it plugged - all is good now.

Thanks guys.
