orright i wanna chop the rear of my chassis bout 2.5 inches behind the rear hangers. (so 15 inches of excess chassis removed.) was wondering if you can get away doing it. without an engineers cert in vic. not really a massive job. chop the sucker and remount the rear bar 15 inches forward.

p.s. not crossmembers will be hurt in the process of this operation.
chop chop!

I'm in NSW, about 8 inches of hilux chasis went in the scrap metal bin and the engineer didn't say a thing.

sweet. i just sat there all day looking at it. and was wondering if my towbar could get put back on, but if i do chop it i will have to strengthen the rear bar or make a whole new one.
might just do away with it all together.
i think ill keep thinking about it some more coz my tray is the perfect length for a swag at the moment. but i can easily fix that with the use of some ply wood.
im a bit hesitant on chopping up a good aluminium tray.
but i think i will end up cutting it down.
what are peoples thoughts on cutting the corners off the tray. like on a 45 degree angle. yay or nay?

I have seen one that has had the chop and it looked fat. Will be doing mine in the next week or 2.

Hey, I chopped the back of my hilux, very similar to bubs and 83 lux...
welded a new crossmember in, not a word from the local constabulary.
Am thinking about putting the tow hitch back on, but its not going to be very functional at the height it is...
Also area54's hilux tray is a cut down alloy one (from memory) might wanna ask some of these guys...
