So here it is, not much to look at right now...just some Q'ee diffs, mock up seats and a steering column, still waiting on the funds for the engine/box/transfer and then i can start getting serious. I'll update this thread as i go along, it'll take a while though only working on available weekends.

Engine is gonna be a Subaru EA81 1.8
Gearbox is gonna be the stock Subaru 4spd that comes with the EA81, it has a modest low range although isn't the shortest box around, so i may find myself stuck with some steep driveshaft angles.
Transfer will be zook, with series 3 gears.
Diffs are GQ, will be stripped, shaved, rebuilt and welded. I'm gonna stay with the stock 3.9 gearing for now to try and cut back on the spendy spendy.
Body will be two seater, left hand drive with rear radiator, battery and small aluminium fuel tank. I wanna try left hand drive out, i think having the weight of the driver always on the left may help with torque twist ... just my little theory, seems to work for the yanks. Steering will be full hyro.
Plan on a few panels, i like the current corolla bonnet/guard/headlight combo, but it won't have any toyota stuff in it, so i don't know how i'll go passing it off as one

All these specs are just what i currently have in my head, the money from the Surf sale went all too quickly so i'm not at the stage i wanted to be at, but hopefully things will get rolling soon. Phil has already commissioned himself to be the wiring doctor, no complaints from me !!

spazbot wrote:full hydro steering is going to be $$$$ dude, id go hydro assist,

Soooo, with full hydro i still need the ram, i still need the pump and for it to be tapped, i still need the lines going to the ram etc.... only thing i need extra is the orbital valve and plumbing. With hydro assist i need to fab a steering shaft arrangment, steering box mount etc, drag link....
I think it'll be much easier having it full hydro with left hand drive also.

Feel free to come back with a different point of view anyone !! :)

you won't need to tap anything. the lines that would normally run to the steering box will just run to the ram.

um i dont think it works that way. 1 line is out the other is return. they dont change directions.

dont buy the valve assembly, just get a power steering box. take the pitman arm off. then use the valves from that to control your ram.

Note: you will have to tap it. but it will save $$$.

I got it from the US, any info talk to Scott at http://www.rockbuggysupply.com
Depending on what dies you get, whether you get a notcher [don't, can get locally cheaper] and where you're based, it'll be between 2 and 2-1/2 grand. Shipping is a killer because of the weight, and customs are Grimace !!

But it's worth it when you get it and do your first awesome bend :D
