How much different is the 60 series transfer case to the 80 series transfer case. IE physical size and shape?. I am thinking of using a vacume shift 60 series transfer case to replace the full time transfer in my 80 series.
It is behind a 4l60e transmission so bolting it up doesn't matter, just will get a different adapter kit.
Main thing is will the tailshafts and crossmember match up, or will they need to be modified.
80 series part time case is not an option because they are hard to find, and the shifter arrangement will not work with my console, i can only have one straight forward back shifter. IE for low range.

Basically thesame configuration but 60 front shaft is thesame size drive plate as rear where 80 is smaller front drive plate (same as lux rear) both come out right hand side of box, 60 had layshaft issues, later than 88 was best and strongest.
Down side is 60 strength and low ratio., which has 1.9 std low range compared to 80 series 2.45 std low. An option is the marks part time conversion in a constant 80 case, but $500 extra dollars later.....

Confucious say...man who argue with idiot, worserer himself
thanks andrew, if they are weaker and not as low geared i will stick with the 80 t-case. It is only $300ish for the part time kit without the free-wheel hubs, and i have some hilux hubs here. $300 is not much if i have to change driveshafts, etc.dow50r wrote:Steve
