G'day, I have a problem every now and again when I start the car, I drive out the drive and about 100mtrs down the road it feels like it wants to stall (always at the traffic lights ) so I stick the boot in and it feels like its flooding then a massive cloud of black smoke (never blue) covers the cars behind me and it fart and spaters across the traffic lights and then if I stop the car soon after say at the shops it's really heard to start. it realy frustrats me as about a month ago I replaced the injectors and glow plugs at great expence. any help would be good. also I will ring the place that did the injectors this week hope they can help aswell
Thanks

take it back to the guy who done the work and get them to fix it, you could have the possibility that there is something wrong with the injectors that where fitted

If the filter were blocked it would restrict fuel and generally not smoke, It may be a pump issue. Is it N/A or turbo? A worn turbo or intake hose sucking in would do it too.

could be something real simple, an air leak.. mine developed a leak when i changed the filter, found the leak to be in the water drain assembly.
When i was cruising down the highway it was good, let it idle at the lights for too long and it felt almost like it was starting to flood, rough idle, had to keep revs up etc, then when i took off it blew a fair bit of smoke and coughed and farted.
Also if left overnight i had to bleed the filter as gravity would draw the fuel back to the tank and suck air into the filter, no noticeable leaks...
Took a while to locate the leak but i knew it had the be around the filter as that was the only thing i changed.
Ended up sealing up all the galleries in the drain with araldite, until i could buy a new one, worked great.

Well it could be anywhere between the pickup in the tank to the injector pump, i guess bit by bit you could go through and check it (won't cost much!) probably start with the areas that have been worked on since the problem started.
Considering its not happening all the time will mean that if it is what i'm talking about you'll barely be able to detect a leak - it'll be small so you'll have to look for perished hoses, dry o-rings and seals in filter assy and filter bleed screw etc.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

went back to the mechanics and installed a clear piece of tube to look for air bubbles and now just wait till it happens again.

The car started to play up on tuesday night after work( thats what you want after a 12 hr day) looked in the clear tube and there was a air bubble about 1 inch long so next week back to put in a one way valve at the tank to see what happens from there.again I'll post up anything else that happens.
