help with 80 series dual tanks

Post by 4runnernomore »

Hi,

I have just bought an 80 series and the subtank wont work. Can any one point me in the right direction of what I ned to look at. The button on the dash won't light up. I suspect it is the solenoid. Where is it located?

Cheers, Chris

The solinoids are located above the rear diff there are two one for the suction one for the return it is unlikely both have failed at the same time

does the car cut out when you select the sub tank?

there is some times confusion about how it is suposed to work
in the diesel the level will only drop slowly as the eng uses it on the overhead guage
the petrol does a transfer from the sub to the main

i have had the lamp blow twice in my transfer switch (the green one)giving me the impression it was not working

it could be the wiring too, on mine the wiring was destroyed because someone had gotten too rough lowering the spare tyre.

mine used to be petrol, and converted to diesel a few years back, and it sure looks like my engine runs straight from either sub or main (depending on switch), and not transferring from sub to main. i wish there was a manual which states how it all works.
