was discussing with my friend and we both had different ideas on what is roadworthy when it comes the the cars exhaust. he recons that it only needs at cat and thats it, i recon it needs both the cat and muffler. who is correct, in qld's that is.

It goes of Db i believe. So if your quiet enough without one, no need for a muffler.
And I don't believe I've ever owned a car with a cat

you have to have a cat. and i it is in Db so if you only have a cat and it isn't to loud then your sweet.

In vic you also need to comply to exhaust exit location regulations. From memory it had to be 300mm minimum from the closest opening of the car (bootlid of a wagon / rear of doors on a ute etc).
No all cars need a cat either (straight LPG....)
