I'm hoping to get mine engineered this break, i'll let you know which day. perhaps you could come around and get him to do yours at the same time. At which point you could lend me your mig again

the engineer you spoke to at the start of the project?

most (all?) engineers will be quite reluctant to be involved with a project like that unless they are involved before the first cut has been made. Engineering is just that - the process of engineering your conversion so it is safe and complies with all necessary legislation. the RTA has a list.

surely you met him in person, spoke to him on the phone not just by email. He must have seen the vehicle, you surely must have spoken to him throughout the buildup.

Or did you just email a bloke and say this what I want to do and he said yeah should be ok and you just went and built it?

the guy a spoke to about mine told me to write down a detailed list of what was going on with exact specs where applicable. now i have to take as many pics as possible of every stage of the chop. quite simple for me to do atm and he gave me some pointers on things to do.

the main thing he told me to concentrate on was that the upper half of the cab minimum (preferably all the chop) had a 12mm lip on the sheet join, so there was no butt joints in the steel. even recommended using exhaust pipe for the nice round edge at the top and the 12mm overlap.

good luck, aslong as you have lots of photo evidence and you did everything the right way you should be fine

by the way, you only need a mod plate for the cab cut and seat capacity mod.

engineering is an optional extra. that is talking to an engineer and a mod plater for the second non related time.

Idon't think you are going to find an engineer that will look at a vehicle for the first time, go over it and pass it the next 4 days. Do you?

anyone who has engineered a truck will know it won't happen in a couple of days. between inspections could be 2 or more weeks. don't rush it.

it works very diferently in qld than in vic. but ive also found most of the engineers here seem to either do what yours did or mess you around for ages.

it will not happen within 1 week tho

I just got a mod plate for change of seating capacity, and when i registered it told them it was a ute, so they rego'd it as a fzj80 ute.

to easy.

what killa said... serious, you dont need an engineer. it is worthless in queensland unless your doing chassis/suspension stuff. go talk to a mod plater or a mechanic who would need to have a mod plater in his phone book.

so i dont really need one so what if the cops type in my rego number and it pops up as a 80 series wagon blaa blaa blaa and they see a 80 series ute i had this trouble before i painted my wagon from red to silver and i got in shit for it on my way to the rta surely chopping a wagon to a ute is more serious then painting a car a different colour??

also my ute is unregested i couldnt afford to keep the rego goin

so you need a mod plate for a seating capacity change ($50) and a modification plate for a van to utility change ($70-150 depending in plater) then take the mod papers down with you when you get it registered.

These are the codes on my 80 series ute blue plate LH7 panel van to ute, LK1 seat capacity, LM1 fuel tank alteration, these are light vehicle codes and from heavy vehicle codes you need K3 cabin conversion. And for your engine swap need LA1 engine substition.
