I have a 105 series cruiser with 5 stud wheels I was wondering if anyone knows if you can change from 5 to 6 stud, can you just swap the hubs with 80 series, or is there any other way it can be done.

any help would be great.

Any particular reason you want to go to 6 stud?

reason is, my camper is 6 stud and my other 4wd is 6 stud so I want all to be 6 stud. manily for when we are traveling I will have more spares.
Also I can get 1 set of mud tyres and swap them from car to car when I want.

100series is semi floater rear end isnt it

80 series is full floater.

you can change the hubs fr and rear but have to mod the rear hubs to accept the 10mm studs the front use 79ser free wheel hubs and the late model post 96 hubs as they have a slight difference where the disc bolts on

I am looking at my service repair manual, and it says it is for 78 & 79 series 1998 to 04 100 series oct 2000 to 04 and 105 series 1998 to 04,
mine is a 105 series so would that mean I can use all the parts off a 78 & 79 series.
would this be correct.

Except 78/79's are 5 stud too, all the way back to 1999.

The 79 and 105 series rear axles are bigger than the 80 series, also, the splines are different, the rear hubs won't fit as everything is different - hub size, spindle size etc etc.

The front knuckles are the same as an 80 series, the hub assembly is different of course, but you would have to change the caliper, disc, hub etc - so the front is doable.

you could possibly have an engineering shop re-drill your hubs to 6 stud, i dont think there will be that much weakening due to the extra 5 stud holes.

Probably cheaper and easier to change your camper to 5 stud......

Toyota made the new 5 lug pattern to handle the larger brakes as I understand it, drilling out your 5 lug rotors and installing 6 smaller lugs is bad advice in my opinion, if something were to happen I am pretty sure your insurance company would not come through - if you lived through it. Brakes/rotors, lugs nuts etc are engineered specifically, mess with it and you could be messing with your life.

Some 100 series are full floater rear. Some are semi-float, depends on the year and designation, the higher spec ones got semi floaters, the pov packs on the whole seem to get full floaters.

Why would 5 lug handle bigger brakes than 6 lug?

The lugs are quite a bit bigger.

That is because there is less of them. The bulk of the strength comes from the surface friction between the rim and the hub anyways, not the studs alone.

Theoretically, it can be done. You can get a pair of 80 series diffs and they will bolt straight in a 105 (they wont fit under a ifs 100 thou.)...they will be narrower, so u can run deeper dish rims. I have done the opposite and put 105 stuff on my 80, because the axles are larger, the gearing is lower, the studs are thicker, the front discs and pads are bigger, the track is wider.
IFS 100's run semi floater, RFS 105's run floating rear ends like the 80
To run 6 studs on the 105 hub, you still have a larger inside diameter, so you would need to run nissan 6 stud rims on them, or aftermarket ROH, which are the bigger size to fit both niss and toymota.

Not many notice...but when they do, especially if they have drink in hand...the head gets scratched alot
