Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Gday all,

I drive an 85 Bundera.

On my way home last night the Battery Light came on, which drew my attention to the voltage gauge which had maxed out. The piranah LED guage for the two batteries showed both were off the scale aswell.

I have never come across this before and im not sure what the problem is. I checked the water in both batteries, the auxillary was low. I topped them up and went for a short drive but no change to the warning lights.

The alternater has been in the car for about 3 years now.

I havent used the auxillary battery for about a year.

Any ideas what could be causing the problem?

Battery voltage sense line to the regulator is broken, so the regulator isn't seeing the voltage it wants, and is running at max output to try to get there.

Internal or external voltage regulator, do you know?

On some later vehicles, this sense line runs through a fuse - if the fuse blows, voltage hits max and starts cooking things. Check your fuses?

Hi mate,

Im obviously no expert on mechanics but im pretty sure it has an external regulator. Im guessing instead of the original item, there is now the piranah dual battary management box.

Its a bit dark outside, but i dont think there are any inline fuses, so could be as simple as a broken wire. Will have to wait till the morning tho.

The way it just suddenly happened would certainly suggest somthing like that.

If it's a blown fuse, it could be in the standard fuse box under the dash. In late model Pajeros, its also the indicator fuse.

Depends on the type of controller you have, but there's a good chance this (or the wiring to it) is the culprit. Look for broken or damaged wires, pull any connectors and check them for crud, clean them and re-seat them again.

If you need to take it to a professional, take it to one who knows your model of controller. Perhaps even call Piranah for advice?
